Have the Conservatives hit upon a way to change one demographic for another? Some might see this as further proof of The Great Replacement.
The Metro newspaper reported vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi wanted to identify ‘at an individual level’ those who have been offered the vaccine but turned it down. The plan is being hatched amid fears that a sizeable amount of the population are ‘sceptical’ of the vaccine. Zahawi said that the role of the council staff would be to determine why people are refusing the vaccine and then “see what might convince them” to change their minds. He refused to confirm how the Government will know who has not taken the vaccine, but did admit during a radio appearance on the BBC that everyone who has taken the shot has been registered in a national immunisation vaccination system.
“We absolutely will look at how we are addressing the issue of refusal rates,” Zahawi rather chillingly said.
While Zahawi touted a high uptake of vaccines among the British population, it emerged that around 20% of social care workers have refused to take the vaccine. This is in addition to reports of 30% of military personel willing to take the vaccine. Meaning a staggering 60% do not want to take it! Similarly a December poll around a third of people in the UK do not want to take the vaccine!
With so called ‘vaccination passports’ looming, a non-vaccinated database could enable the government to cross check who they are issuing the ‘freedom passes’ to, and ensure that only the vaccinated are allowed to integrate back into society.
Meanwhile on the other side of town, as they say in ‘50s B movies, over 140 charities, faith groups, local authorities and medical organisations have written to the government urging more action to ensure an estimated 1.3 million people feel safe coming forward.
Alarmingly, Downing Street on Monday said there would be no checks on immigration status at vaccine centres and that “those who are here illegally can come forward to receive a vaccine”.
The usual suspects, including the Refugee Council, The Faculty of Public Health, TUC Trades Union Congress(TUC), Medact, Migrants Organise, and the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) say, somewhat ironically, many could still be left unvaccinated the government desist with their ‘aggressive migrant policies’
They are also calling for support to be provided to GP surgeries to register “everyone, including undocumented and under-documented migrants and those without secure accommodation”, and a public information campaign to ensure everyone is aware of their right to access a vaccine.
Research by the JCWI carried out in January found that 43% of migrants surveyed would be scared to access healthcare for fear of being charged or having their data shared with the Home Office.
Half of surveyed people with refugee status, 56%, would be scared to access healthcare, citing the risk of the NHS sharing data with the Home Office.
The research found that 17% of people with Indefinite Leave to Remain would be fearful, 24% of those with a temporary visa such as a work or spouse visa, and 81% of those without any form of status.
The percentages in bold illustrate the level of the illegal immigration problem the UK suffers from. (These are now renamed undocumented migrants, not dissimilar to a burglar in your home might be called an undocumented visitor!)
The government’s original announcement of an amnesty was announced in the Daily Mail newspaper on Monday. While primary care with a GP has always been free, regardless of immigration status, most illegal (undocumented) migrants are not registered with a GP. Officials said that data sharing between the NHS and the Home Office “is limited” and that the health department has made clear to the NHS that “patients undergoing vaccination, testing and treatment for coronavirus only are not subject to immigration status checks”.
A Government spokesperson said: “Coronavirus vaccines will be offered to everyone living in the UK free of charge, regardless of immigration status.
“Those registered with a GP are being contacted at the earliest opportunity and we are working closely with partners and external organisations to contact those who are not registered with a GP to ensure they are also offered the vaccine.” Asked about the issue at a regular briefing of journalists in Westminster, Boris Johnson’s spokesperson said: “As we’ve said before, coming forward to receive a vaccine will not be linked to any immigration status, so those who are here illegally can come forward to receive a vaccine. That is obviously important for us to tackle the transmission rate of the virus across the UK.”
Its important to note the two aspects at play here. Do citizens without a vaccine passport enjoy less rights, despite having paid into the national insurance and tax ‘kitty’ all their working lives?
And conversely does an illegal immigrant, with minimal cultural ties to this island, then qualify for benefits not previously earned?
A cynic might conclude the Conservatives have hit upon a way to change one demographic for another. This same cynic might see this as The Great Replacement, so often debunked as a conspiracy theory.
